Fluid Pressure
The term fluid pressure is coined as, the measurement of the force per unit area of a given surface of a closed container. It is a branch of physics that helps to study the properties of fluid under various conditions of force.
Gauge Pressure
Pressure is the physical force acting per unit area on a body; the applied force is perpendicular to the surface of the object per unit area. The air around us at sea level exerts a pressure (atmospheric pressure) of about 14.7 psi but this doesn’t seem to bother anyone as the bodily fluids are constantly pushing outwards with the same force but if one swims down into the ocean a few feet below the surface one can notice the difference, there is increased pressure on the eardrum, this is due to an increase in hydrostatic pressure.

The figure below shows an experiment designed to measure the surface tension \( T \) of a thin film of a liquid. On which variables does the surface tension depend?
**Select all that apply:**
- [ ] the thickness of the film
- [ ] the type of liquid used
- [ ] the width of the film \( w \)
- [ ] the length of the wire \( L \)
- [ ] the magnitude of the pulling force, \( F_{\text{pull}} \)
**Diagram Explanation:**
The diagram illustrates a thin film of liquid with labeled dimensions. The width of the film is denoted as \( w \), and the length of a wire is labeled as \( L \). The wire appears to be used for applying a pulling force, indicated by arrows and labeled \( F_{\text{pull}} \), perpendicular to the film surface. This setup is typically used to study the effects of different variables on surface tension, a critical property of liquid films.](/v2/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcontent.bartleby.com%2Fqna-images%2Fquestion%2Ffea86598-763f-4f77-8aa1-6d0907d2b5d9%2F9bca1910-1898-49de-8ed4-661f29181bc9%2Fvypapk_processed.jpeg&w=3840&q=75)
