would substances be able to pass through the plasma membrane if the phospholipi tails of the plasma membrane were oth satueated fatty acids? why or why not, explain?
Plasma membrane
Plasma membrane is a dynamic structure and forms the external boundary of cell.
it act as a selectively permeable membrane and regulates the molecular traffic across the boundary. the plasma membrane exhibits selective permeability .that is it allows some solute to cross it more easily than other.
Different model were proposed to explain the structure and composition of plasma membrane.
In 1972 jonathan singer and garth nicolson proposed FLUID -MOSAIC MODEL. which is now most accepted model, membrane are viewed as quasi-fluid structure in which proteins are inserted into lipid bilayers.
it describe both mosaic arrangement of proteins embedded throughout the lipid bilayer as well as the fluid movement of lipid and proteins alike.
