State the roles of bile and pancreatic juice in digestion.
The big food molecules are broken down into smaller, absorbable forms during digestion. The digestive system uses both physical and chemical digestion processes to accomplish this. Several secretions from the cells of its organs and glands undertake chemical digestion. The chemical digestion of food in the small intestine is aided by bile and pancreatic juice.
Bile is a yellowish-green liquid released by the liver’s hepatic cells. HCO3-, cholesterol, phospholipids, bile pigments, bile salts, and organic waste are all found in it. The bile has two important functions:
1. Its HCO3- neutralizes the acidic character of the chyme, which is necessary for food digestion in the small intestine.
2. Its fatty salts emulsify fat globules into tiny droplets, increasing the surface area of the fatty substance and thereby improving fatty substances’ digestion.
3. Its fatty salts improve cholesterol, fatty acid absorption, and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.
