The situation of the spleen is the upper left abdomen. It's highly vascularized. Most of it's arterial supply is from the splenic artery which arises from the coeliac trunk. On approaching the spleen, the splenic artery gives five branches.
The splenic vein is responsible for the venous drainage. This vein forms hepatic portal vein by combining with the superior mesenteric vein.
