They are the prime ingredient of a concrete paste and forms a matrix in which other building material like aggregate, sand etc. are present. There are various cementitious materials available nowadays such as cement, lime, fly ash, granulated blast furnace slag etc. These cementitious materials when mixed with water forms a plastic paste which later gets harden due to hydration.
Hydration is a process in which chemical compounds present in the cementitious material reacts with water molecules and form new compounds.
