Name and draw a structural formula for the product of each alkene addition reaction

СH, + HI
Transcribed Image Text:СH, + HI
Expert Solution
Step 1

An addition reaction is the type of reaction in which the addition of the species takes place to the unsaturated molecules. An example of an addition reaction is the addition of hydrogen molecules to the unsaturated hydrocarbons. The alkene is the type of unsaturated hydrocarbon having the general formula CnH2n. An example of alkene is ethene.

Step 2

To draw the product of the given addition reaction.

The given reaction is shown below.

Chemistry homework question answer, step 2, image 1

The given reaction is an addition reaction and it follows Markovinkov's rule i.e the negative part of the species bonded to that carbon which has less number of hydrogen atoms around the double-bonded carbon atom. When HI reacted with methylenecyclohexane it will form 1-iodo-1-methylcyclohexane, as shown in the reaction.
