Select all that are "exact numbers" and therefore have an unlimited number of significant figures

Question 21 options:

A)

12 inches= 1 foot

B)

60 min= 1 hour

C)

1 pig= 88 kg

D)

my car speed= 55 mi per hour

E)

pie= 3.14

Expert Solution
Step 1

Exact numbers:- A exact number is a number which have no uncertainty on it. Exact numbers can't be simplified thus have infinite numbers of significant figures.

Defined numbers such as 1 foot = 12 inch are exact numbers. Hence 12inch = 1foot will be exact.

There are exactly 60 minutes in 1 hour, this 60minutes = 1 hour will be exact.

1 pig = 88kg also seems to be defined number, hence will be exact.

My car speed = 55 mi/hour ,  This is measured value from an instrument hence can't be a exact number.

The value of Pi is uncertain, ie it can't be exactly 3.14 this it is not an exact number. However it value is constant but it this form it is inexact.
