Scientific Method Story   Directions: Read the following story demonstrating the scientific process  then  answer the questions.  Many people in the small Midwestern town of Hootville are stricken with the disease“BUGGO". Many of those who become ill recover within 7-10 days Through intensive study, “BUGGO” is now believed to be  caused by a bacterium (single for bacteria) called "Gotcha." In their fight against “BUGGO”, a new drug X , has been shown to kill the GOTCHA bacteria which was grown in a test tube. Drug X was tested on dogs and found to cure those stricken with “BUGGO”. Researchers decided to test the new drug on some of the people in Hootville. They thought that the drug would also kill “GOTCHA” in humans. They decided that if given drug X that the people would recover faster than those who didn’t receive it.  The researchers prepared 2 kinds of tablets that were identical in every way except that one group of tablets contained drug X and the other group did not. The tablets that did not contain the drug are called a placebo. The researchers selected 2 groups of people who had just gotten the disease. 25 people in group A were given the tablet containing drug X and 25 people in group B were given the placebo. In three days time, 90% of the people given the drug were well while all those given the placebo took about nine days to get well.   What is the problem What is the hypothesis What are some of the data In this experiment Why use a placebo Which group was the control group Which group was the experimental group Is this a good experiment? Why or why not? What is the independent( manipulated) varial What is the dependent (responding) variable

Directions: Read the following story demonstrating the scientific process  then  answer the questions.

Many people in the small Midwestern town of Hootville are stricken with the disease“BUGGO". Many of those who become ill recover within 7-10 days

Through intensive study, “BUGGO” is now believed to be  caused by a bacterium (single for bacteria) called "Gotcha." In their fight against “BUGGO”, a new drug X , has been shown to kill the GOTCHA bacteria which was grown in a test tube.
