Round seed shape in a pea plant is ------------ character
(A) Recessive
(B) Dominant
(C) Both of these
(D) None of these
Gregor John Mendel was an Austrian monk. From 1856- 1863, he performed various experiments on pea plants.
Decades after his results were rediscovered by three different scientists when they were studying heredity.
In 1900s Hugo de Vries, Carl Correns and Erich von Tschemark found that the results of Mendel’s experiment were promising and the three scientists brought this to knowledge of world.
After the rediscovery of his work Mendel has been considered as ‘Father of genetics’ for his tremendous contribution to this field.
Mendel chose pea plants to carry out hybridization experiments and finalised the traits to study and they were as follows:
- Plant height (tall/ dwarf)
- Flower colour (purple/white)
- Flower position (terminal /axial)
- Seed colour (yellow/green)
- Seed shape (round/ wrinkled)
- Pod colour (green/yellow)
- Pod shape (inflated/ constricted)
