A three stage C.P. has impellers (cm) in diameter and (1.8cm) wide at outlet. The vanes are curved back at
outlet at (45°). The manometric efficiency is (90%) and the overall efficiency is (80%). After drawing the
velocity triangles, determine: (1) The head generated by the pump when running at (1000 R.P.M.) delivering
(50 L/S).
(2) The shaft power in KW.
Question Three (
A single acting reciprocating pump has a piston diameter (20 cm) and stroke length (30 cm) and the crank is
running at (30 R.P.M.). The pump raises water to a height of (20 m) above its centre through a delivery pipe (25
m) long and (10 cm) in diameter. The coefficient of friction is (0.02) and the atmospheric pressure is (10.3
mH₂O). Determine:
(1) The pressure head on the piston in the beginning, middle and the end of delivery stroke.
(2) The power required to drive the pump (work done per second by the pump) in KW if maximum loss of head
due to friction in section pipe (Hs (max)) = 1.38 m, and section head (4 m).
Question Four (
A pipe of (300 mm) diameter conveying (0.25m³/s) of water has a bend as shown in a horizontal plane.
