Each of the muscle fibers are made up of even smaller fibers called as myofibrils. These myofibrils are formed of actin and myosin filaments. The actin filaments are thinner and myosin are thicker. The actin filaments are anchored to the Z lines. The sarcomere is the region between two Z lines. Myosin filaments overlap the actin filaments within a sarcomere.
