[According to Shamsul Amri Baharuddin (2012) the history of race relations in Malaysia there is a tidal trend that can be divided into three time periods after the second world war in 1945, namely the Conflict Phase (1945-1960), Stability but Tense Phase (1961-1970) and Social Cohesion Phase (1971 to present). The three phases reflect the race relations scenario in Malaysia and explain that racial unity in the context of social cohesion needs to be maintained so that the bitter experiences of the past decades become lessons for the common good. The conflict phase begins as soon as World War II ended up in 1960. During the period, the communist threat and emergency issues in 1948 make a state of conflict and mistrust among ethnic Malays over Chinese. This situation lasted until 1960 and ended when the communists surrendered completely. However, this Conflict Phase did not end just like that, instead, tensions still occurred even in a more stable state and were known as the Stable but Tense Phase between the periods of 1960-1970. Starting from that moment a conflict arises between the Malays and Chinese in particular due to the disparities between the economic imbalance and mutual distrust between the communities. Finally, there was a racial shift that was recorded in history on 13 May 1969. The third phase in race relations in Malaysia was Social Cohesion in 1971 until now which resulted in prosperity to the national economy and at the same time create prosperity for society in general.
