NONLINEAR SYSTEMS
By a nonlinear system, we mean a set of two equations, at least one of which
is not linear. Solving a system is to find (x, y) pair, which satisfies both
equations in the system.
We concentrate on systems consisting of one linear and one quadratic
equations
To solve such nonlinear system,
1. Use elimination by addition or substitution method as in the linear systems.
2. Remove or isolate the linear term not the quadratic term.
3. Solve the quadratic equation for the remaining variable.
4. Then find the other unknown.

examples. For each part, explain what the system represents geometrically:
a) 5x - 7y + 14 = 15
3x – 4y + 8 = 9
b) 5x – 3y + 9 = 0
20x – 12y + 12 = 0
c) 3x + 2y +1 = 0
12x + 8y + 4 = 0
