Psychoanalytic theory and behaviorism were the two dominant theories of the first half of the twentieth century and have very diverse views of human development. While psychoanalytic theory contends that behavior is in large part driven by unconscious dynamic, interactive, and intrinsic/instinctual drives, the behavioral theory refutes even the existence of the unconscious, noting that it cannot be proven and has no bearing on human behavior.  Rather, behaviorists contend that all behavior is learned through the process of conditioning – we are, simply, biological organisms that respond to stimuli from our environment and thus learn our behaviors through the consequences of our responses.  Do you think humans possess an unconscious?  And, if so, do you think our unconscious plays a role in our behaviors?  Or, are our behaviors more driven by what we have learned through our environment?  Explain your answer.
