Applied behavioral analysis (ABA) was birthed from the school of behaviourism, in psychology. This school of thought believed that all behaviour is a product of what an individual learns from interactions with his environment. ABA specifically works with operant conditioning to change behaviour. Mental health professionals use aspects of ABA therapy like token economies to treat schizophrenia and developmental disabilities like autism. It is used to enhance communication, learning and other behaviours.
