The Stanford Prison experiment was conducted to verify whether prison guards were sadistic by nature or by other means. These were conducted as numerous accounts of brutality were reported in the name of the prison guards working in American prisons. Although prisoners and guards had opposite personalities that made the conflict between the both ineluctable, with prisoners lacking respect for law and order whereas guards having domineering traits which was aggressive, the guards could have shown mercy when dealing with prisoners which did not happen.
