Case 1: Bacterial Pneumonia and Hyperthermia

Hanna Makaanges is a 28-year-old female patient who has been admitted to the Medical Ward due Bacterial Pneumonia. She came in to the hospital with difficulty in breathing, a non-productive cough, bibasilar crackles and expiratory wheezing in all lung fields. Her Chest X-ray revealed lobar consolidation suggesting the aforementioned illness. Laboratory tests results show an elevated White Blood Cell (WBC) count. She was then advised to go to the hospital hence admission.

Upon admission, the physician ordered IV fluids and pharmacotherapy for patient Hanna. Her medications include: Cefuroxime 75 mg PO q 12H and Paracetamol 500 mg 1 tab PRN for temperature 37.7 C and above.
