Staphylococcus epidermidis is a non-motile, facultative anaerobic Gram-positive cocci. It primarily belongs to the human flora, more appropriately, human skin flora. The bacterium is of two types : coagulase positive and coagulase negative.
It is a common cause of the nosocomial infections, i.e., hospital-acquired infections.
