Expert Solution
Step 1

Newman projection has following conformation:

1. Eclipsed conformation. In this conformation the dihedral angle is 0°C. In this conformation all the atoms are facing each other. This conformation is very unstable because of the steric hindrance.

2. Staggered conformation.  In this conformation the dihedral angle is 180°C. In this conformation all the atoms are antiperplanar to each other. This conformation is most stable because of no steric hindrance.

3. Gauche conformation.  In the conformation the dihedral angle is 60°C. In this conformation atoms are far away so that they feel less steric hindrance.

Thus order of stability ;

Staggered > gauche > eclipsed
