Step 2 Description on ERP

 It is based on electrophysiologic response, which is a non-invasive method of monitoring brain activity. ERP can be measured by electroencephalography by placing the electrodes on the scalp, which is able to detect many ongoing activities in the brain. For only one single stimulus, the response is not that visible in the EEG, so the experimenter needs to take many trials of stimulus and take the average of the trials so that random brain activity can be eliminated and the relevant waveform remains which is known as ERP. Various kinds of background noise need to be eliminated that interfere with the actual ERP, therefore the signal of interest which needs to be investigated under ERP requires the removal of background noise.
