Energy transfer
The flow of energy from one region to another region is referred to as energy transfer. Since energy is quantitative; it must be transferred to a body or a material to work or to heat the system.
Molar Specific Heat
Heat capacity is the amount of heat energy absorbed or released by a chemical substance per the change in temperature of that substance. The change in heat is also called enthalpy. The SI unit of heat capacity is Joules per Kelvin, which is (J K-1)
Thermal Properties of Matter
Thermal energy is described as one of the form of heat energy which flows from one body of higher temperature to the other with the lower temperature when these two bodies are placed in contact to each other. Heat is described as the form of energy which is transferred between the two systems or in between the systems and their surrounding by the virtue of difference in temperature. Calorimetry is that branch of science which helps in measuring the changes which are taking place in the heat energy of a given body.

The mechanism shown in the figure (Figure 1)is used to
raise a crate of supplies from a ship's hold. The crate
has total mass 60 kg . A rope is wrapped around a
wooden cylinder that turns on a metal axle. The
cylinder has radius 0.25 m and a moment of inertia I =
2.2 kg · m? about the axle. The crate is suspended

from the free end of the rope. One end of the axle
pivots on frictionless bearings; a crank handle is
attached to the other end. When the crank is turned,
What magnitude of the force F applied tangentially to the rotating crank is required to raise the crate
with an acceleration of 1.40 m/s² ? (You can ignore the mass of the rope as well as the moments of
inertia of the axle and the crank.)
the end of the handle rotates about the axle in a vertical
circle of radius 0.12 m , the cylinder turns, and the
crate is raised.
Express your answer using two significant figures.
