Introduction

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. An amino acid contains a carboxylic acid and a-amino group, hence called amino acids. Two amino acids are linked to one another by a peptide bond. There are 20 different types of amino acids. Amino acids can be classified as four depending upon their polarity:

Non-polar, neutral: Sidechains that contains hydrocarbon alkyl group or aromatic group are usually non-polar.
Polar and neutral: A neutral amino acid is an amino acid that doesn't have an overall charge in them.
Acidic and polar: If the amino acid contains an acid group in its R chain, then it becomes an acidic amino acid.
Basic and polar: If the R group contains an amine then the overall nature of the amino acid becomes basic.
