What is a Pilot Study, exactly?
Ashley is a Ph.D. student who wanted to test if small group math games may help children learn more math. She created an experiment in which three instructors conducted small group math exercises with children to study this problem. It was vital to choose acceptable activities and set out exactly how the games would be handled so that each instructor performed the same thing. These were convincing reasons for carrying out pilot research before the major examination.
A pilot study is a research project that is carried out preparatory to the main study. Pilot studies are frequently conducted on a smaller scale than the main study. A pilot study cannot eliminate all systematic errors or unexpected challenges, but it can reduce the likelihood of making a Type I or Type II error. Both types of errors cause the main study to be a waste of time, effort, and money.
