Network layer services are varied.
Expert Solution
Step 1
The network layer is the third and final tier of the OSI model of computer networks.
The primary purpose of it is to move network packets from their origination point to their final destination. It involves the host, the source, and the host, the goal.
It begins by accepting a packet from the transport layer at the start, after which it wraps the package into a datagram and delivers the box to the data link layer so it may continue its journey to the receiver.
When the datagram arrives at its destination, it must first undergo decapsulation, after which the packet must be retrieved and sent to the appropriate transport layer.
Specifically, these:
- The primary duty of the Network layer is to transport the data packets from their origin to their destination without altering or making use of the contents in any way.
- When the packets are fragmented or split into smaller containers, they are too big to be sent in their original form.
- It selects, from among the several routes available in a network, the one that the packets will follow as they make their way from the origin to the destination (also called routing).
- Inside the network layer, the source and destination addresses are appended to the data packets.
