name/list factors that identify this study as an epidemiological study. how do you know this was an epidemiological study
Epidemiology is the study of how disease is distributed in populations and the factors that influence or determine this
distribution. We are currently experiencing a real life epidemiology presentation as our news feed track risk to COVID19.
The amount of current cases (prevalence of disease), number of new cases (incidence of disease), and the rate of infection
(relative risk, rate ratio, etc) are medical terms daily presented to the public to inform us of our risk to COVID19. These
scientific terms also determine policies from local and national governments. Policies such as social distancing, mask
wearing, small group gatherings, hygiene, and travel restrictions. Although epidemiologists use some of the same scientific
methods as psychologists, their terminologies can differ (eg., longitudinal is the same as prospective, or independent
variable is the same as exposure variable). Epidemiologists are vital members of a medical team for managing disease. In
particular, their expertise contributes to disease prevention for patients who present to a psychologist.
