Introduction:

Epithelial tissues are cells that completely surround the body's surface, lining the cavities and creating glands. Taste, smell, vision, and hearing receptors are all served by specialized epithelial cells. Epithelial cells are numerous, densely packed, and form different junctions to provide barriers between free and connective tissue surfaces. The free surfaces of the body include the lining of bodily cavities, the outermost surface of internal organs, the body's outer surface, ducts, and tubes. The ECM (extracellular matrix) is minimal, with no other structures present. These tissues lack blood arteries but do have a nerve supply.
