Name and describe two ways of collecting an undisturbed soil sample.
A soil sample can be classified under two categories:-
a) Disturbed Sample:- It is one whose in-situ characteristics have been altered during the collecting procedure. In order to identify the soil's kind, gradation, categorization, density, smoothness, the existence of pollutants, layering, etc., disturbed soil samples are often collected.
b) Undisturbed sample:- It is one in which the soil's structural integrity is preserved and its restoration rate is extremely high. The in situ toughness, compressibility, spontaneous water content, unit weight, permeability, irregularities, cracks, and splits of geological formation are all assessed using an undisturbed soil sample.
