Spain was an imperial power during the Age of Imperialism. It strengthened its presence in different colonies, and one of them was by establishing New Spain in the Americas during the 16th century. However, this did not come easy, and it struggled to control some of the Northern provinces of New Spain, which we shall identify further below.
