Mrs. Ethel Jones is an 86 year old women living in an assisted living home. She has been widowed for 4 years and has 2 grown sons ages 62 and 65, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She receives visits from family at least once a week. Before she retired she worked as an elementary school teacher. She reports that she enjoys reading, playing card games, working in the garden, and going on outings. She has a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, and asthma. About 6 years ago she got an infection in her right foot and required an amputation at the level of the ankle. She is still able to transfer independently with the use of a floor to ceiling poll; however she does spend most of her day in a wheel chair. Unfortunately in the past 3 months she has had 4 falls and is reporting that she is feeling weaker. Luckily she has not seriously hurt herself during these falls. She reports that she is very happy with the care that she receives and she enjoys the staff.
