Question

Why does rapid mixing of the reducing agent give more monodispersed particles?

Expert Solution
Step 1 Role of Reducing agent

Reducing agent are those reagent m, which giving electrons to ions ( Cation like Ag(+) or Au(+) ion ) and these ions are converted into in neutral atom ( Ag and Au atoms ) and each neutral atoms are in nano range ( 10^-9 m ) these all atoms are mono-dispersed when we are adding a reducing agent on it's ion this is due to nano-size particles have no intraction so it's not form bulk particle it's always formed nanoparticles by addition of reducing agent.

When you will adding reducing agent rapidly then all the reducing agent particles giving more number of electrons to reduced more ions ( like gold or silver ion ) into it's neutral atom and you will get more mono-dispersed nano particles ( for more nanoparticles like gold or silver nanoparticles )

NOTE : Nano-particles are mono-dispersed due to it's nano size range but if you not adding reducing agent then you will get bulk particle and these particles are not mono-dispersed due to it's bigger size not in nano rang
