Pregnancy is a 36 - 40 week gestation period during which the fetus develops from fertilized zygote to a full-grown fetus. The entire period of pregnancy is classified into three trimesters and each trimester constitutes three months.
In the first trimester, major organs of the fetus will develop. In the second trimester, the fetus develops limbs and other organs. In the third trimester, the fetus grows in size and attains birth weight and size. Until six months infants depend on the milk for nutrition.
Milk production starts around 16-22 weeks in pregnant mothers. The gut of the infants is not well developed to digest external food. So, milk is the only source of nutrition. The composition of milk varies depending on the stage of the feeding stage.
Initially, thick colostrum rich in nutrients such as fatty acids, sugar moieties, and immunoglobulins will be released in response to the suckling of the baby. The Suckling action of babies induces a let-down reflex which releases oxytocin into the system. Oxytocin squeezes the breast tissue and releases stored milk from the mammary gland through a duct to the nipples. Therefore, milk ejection is induced by the suckling action of babies.
Hence, option d is correct.
