Human diet contains three types of carbohydrates that is :
- Polysaccharides
- Disaccharides
- Monosaccharides
Digestion of carbohydrates start in the mouth by enzymes called salivary amylase. Then in stomach gastric contains weak amylase enzyme which plays minor role in digestion of carbohydrates. Then in the intestine, secretions are received from pancreatic juices and enzymes present in succus entericus which helps in further digestion of carbohydrates.
