Abraham Maslow proposed first humanistic theory of motivation. He proposed that there are several many level of needs that a person must achieve before meeting the highest level of personality fulfillment. The theory is known as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, at the bottom basic needs for the survival is placed and the top highest needs are placed, hierarchy rank also depict a shape of pyramid. It comprises of 5 levels: Physiological needs (hunger, thirst , fatigue, sex etc) ; Safety needs (personal security, health, etc) ; Love and belongings need (friends, family, intimacy, sense of connection, etc) ; Esteem need (self esteem, respect, status, recognition etc) ; and Self actualization ( to find one's full potential).
Later theory was modified and 3 more levels were added Cognitive needs (to know, explore and understand) ; Aesthetic needs (to appreciate beauty) and Transcendence needs (to find spiritual meaning beyond one's self), where Transcendence was placed above self actualization need.
Maslow said human beings must fulfill basic needs first : Physiological and safety needs before moving towards highest level of needs esteem and self actualization.
Self actualization is the position where human have satisfied all his needs and have achieved their full human potential.
