Major cities across the United States are affected by human activities that contribute to hazardous tropospheric ozone. Some cities are affected more than others based on both environmental conditions and city characteristics. The table provides information about the 2018 tropospheric ozone in four major cities in the United States as well as the environmental conditions and population density. (e) Describe one negative impact of poor air quality on human health that would be amplified in Los Angeles because of the number of days with hazardous levels of tropospheric ozone. (f) Describe one change that factories or industries in Philadelphia might have made that helped reduce the number of days per year with hazardous levels of tropospheric ozone.

The troposphere is referred to as the lowest layer of the earth's atmosphere and is the wettest layer of the atmosphere; rest all the layers contains very little moisture. It extends upward to about 10 km above sea level. Air is warmest at the bottom of the troposphere near ground level and becomes colder as one rises through the troposphere. The layer above the troposphere is called the stratosphere where the ozone gas, an unusual type of oxygen molecule that is abundant in the stratosphere, heats this layer because it absorbs energy from incoming ultraviolet radiation from the Sun.
