London UK  is located at−0.178∘ Longitude, 51.4∘ Latitude. the solar-zenith angles for this city on each of the following dates;

 

1) At summer solstice :

Angle of declination, d= 23.45° (Positive during summer solstice)

Latitude, l= 51.4 °

Elevation angle = 90 + l - d

                             = 90 + 51.4  - 23.45 = 117.95

As you have seen value  is greater than 90°, subtract this value from 180°.

Angle of elevation= 180 - 117.95 = 62.05

Zenith Angle = 90 - elevation angle = 90 - 62.05= 27.95

 

2) At Autumn equinox:

We know Declination =0°

Angle of elevation= 90+ 51.4 -0 = 141.4

As you have  value was greater than 90°so  subtract it from 180°.

Angle of elevation= 180 - 141.4 = 38.6

Zenith angle = 90 - 38.6 = 51.4
