The first snowball event on the earth occurred the way back to ~2200 Ma (mega annum), which is almost half the age of Earth around 4567 Ma. There were several factors aggregate to caused snowball earth event, such as volcanic eruption, reduction in the concentration of greenhouse gas, specially (methane and carbon dioxide) on the earth, changes in the solar output, etc.
Stromatolites are the communities of blue-green algae and bacteria that build reef like structures within the marine environments. Stromatolites were important because they were changed the atmosphere by reducing methane and carbon dioxide gas.
