pH of a solution is determined using the following equation:

                    pH=-log[H+]

So, by determining the concentration of H+ ions in the solution the pH of the solution can be determined.

The net ionic equations responsible for pH of the solution are:

 (a) NH4Cl :

     NH4Cl(aq) +H2O(l)  H3O+(aq) + NH3(aq) + Cl-(aq)

So by determining the concentration of  H3O+ the pH of the solution is calculated using the above formula.

Here, H3O+ represents the H+ ions.
