John reply to Allison: How helpful are their comments and responses to Allison's? I was in the place at the same point in my life. I had no background at all, so took a bunch of grad credits to get the necessary pre-requisites toward a master's program. I enjoyed the classes, but every job I could have gotten with a masters paid less than what I was making, which wasn't that much. So I started thinking Ph.D. and after spending hours and days scouring for info, beginning at psywww.com, I decided against it. I have no idea if I did the right thing or not. Bill is right, it is a lot of money and a lot of time for not that much money in return...and the academic competition for a Ph.D. program is harder than a lot of med schools. I think, if I could do it over again, I'd have applied myself as an undergrad and gone to med school to become a psychiatrist.
