AIDS ( Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome) is a condition caused by HIV ( Human Immunodeficiency Virus) that is either congenital or acquired. Acquired HIV occurs through contact with the blood, semen, vaginal secretions, breast milk and amniotic fluid of carriers.
A person can have an HIV infection without having AIDS. HIV and AIDS are related, but they are not the same. HIV is a Virus which may cause AIDS.
Immunodeficiency refers to the weakening of immune system in which the cells that fight infection are responsible for producing immunity are not working in a way they should. Not everyone who has HIV will get AIDS. But the infection will advance to AIDS, usually in 10 to 15 years, if a person with HIV doesn’t get any treatment.
