They communicate with each other for a variety of reasons, namely warning about predators and crying for help- as is the case with many primate species- as well as making contact with members of their social group. Communication increases fitness- which is a term that describes survivability and the likelihood of passing down their genes to offspring- amongst capuchins as it allows for group living, decreasing their statistical likelihood of being killed, as well as allowing them to communicate- as aforementioned- about predators; these cries for help might prove to be lifesaving, thereby increasing fitness. Furthermore, female brown capuchin monkeys- one of five different capuchin species-  have a mating call, which is another example of how capuchin vocalization increases fitness, as it increases their likelihood of reproduction.
