In the film Far from Heaven' I feel as if Cathy's husband wasn't around as much as he could've been. I feel that this is the reason Cathy sort of went off on her own and challenged the independent aspect that she comes off as being. She raises the children but also does quite a bit of other things. I feel that she leaned on Raymond strongly because he actually acted like he cared and listened to her when her husband had yelled at her and slapped her. She knew she couldn't tell her friend that he had done what he had done. I also feel that she didn't know who to really turn to, because she was going through this marital crisis, along with a mid-life crisis; she wanted to let loose and find herself to an extent. Outsiders may have seen this as wreckless, therefore giving them a reason to gossip about the things she was doing. Do you feel that women started becoming more independent once they realized they could do just as much if not more as the men could? Why do you think women pushed so hard for rights to work, vote, etc?
