Procedures:
A. Preparation of 0.1 M NaOH
1. Boil approximately 250 mL of distilled water. Be sure to protect the water from the atmosphere
as it cools (use watch glass to cover).
2. Weigh 1.0 g of NaOH in a 250 mL beaker and add into it gradually the distilled water, stir until
all the solids are dissolved.
3. Transfer the solution to the reagent bottle. Secure the bottle with a cap and mix the solution
thoroughly.
B. Standardization of 0.1 M NaOH against Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate
1. Obtain three dry and clean 250 mL Erlenmeyer flasks and label each one.
2. Accurately weigh (ranging from 0.2 to 0.3 g) triplicate samples of pure potassium hydrogen
phthalate (KHP) using small sheets of aluminum foil and carefully transfer them into each
flask.
3. Record the mass (g) of the KHP present in each flask.
