A cataract occurs whenever the generally clear lens in one's eye would become cloudy. Light travels via a clear lens to reach one's eye. The lens is located next to one's colored portion of our eyes called iris. The lens concentrates light such that one's brain and eye could operate next to each other to create an image.
When a cataract obscures the lens, one's eye is unable to concentrate light in almost the same manner. This results in vision problems or other types of visual impairment. One's vision will alter depending on the place and volume of the cataract.
