Identify the critical path for the following three scenarios of a project activities (tables given below) and their required times to be completed in addition to their predecessors for developing a 'Website': Activity Description Duration (weeks) Preceding Activities A Determine user needs 3 B Review s/w and languages 1 C Purchase software 4 D Design format and style 4 B E Write programs 2 A F Review outcome product with user 5 C G Make revisions 1 D, F H Select server site 3 E I Install on server and test 6 G J 3 H, I 1. Draw the path. 2. Calculate the early finishing time (forwards calculations) 3. Highlight the total time to complete the project (weeks) 4. Calculate the late finishing time (backwards calculations) 5. Calculate the slack time of the non-critical path activities 6. Identify the critical path (highlight critical path activities)
Critical Path Method
The critical path is the longest succession of tasks that has to be successfully completed to conclude a project entirely. The tasks involved in the sequence are called critical activities, as any task getting delayed will result in the whole project getting delayed. To determine the time duration of a project, the critical path has to be identified. The critical path method or CPM is used by project managers to evaluate the least amount of time required to finish each task with the least amount of delay.
