Step 1 Introduction on Myelin sheath:

There are Myelinated as well as unmyelinated nerve fibers, those myelinated are covered by a myelin sheath. Those nerve fibers with the long axons seems to be myelinated. Unmyelinated nerve fibers transmit and conduct impulses at low velocities and have voltage-gated sodium channels throughout the length of the membrane. Whereas in the myelinated axons they have voltage-gated sodium channels in the Ranvier's node region. Therefore in myelinated neurons, there is saltatory conduction observed so as to generate fast travelling impulses by means of hopping or leaping impulses.
