I need help opening the other "def" s in order to give the user the choice to run, read, or exit the "def". and I need help as well in exiting the program

For this home work, you are to create a things-to-do list and store the things-to-do in a file. You will offer the user the
following menu:
1) Add an item
2) Print list
3) Exit
For this assignment, you only need to add a "thing to do" item to a text file and print the list. The menu should be in a
while loop so the user can add more than one item or choose to print the list.
If the user selects option 1, open the file in "append" mode; ask the user to enter a "thing to do" and append the item
to the end of the file. Then close the file.
If the user selects option 2 (Print List) open the text file "read" mode and use a for loop to print the items in the list to
the screen. Then close the file.
Put your file-open code in one function, and your print-list code in another function.
The main() function should manage the while loop and menu selections and call the appropriate function according to
the user's selection.
Close the file after adding an item and printing the list.
You must use exception handling for your file open code. Catch the IOError exception.
