Expert Solution
Step 1

The hip bone, also known as the coxal bone or os coxae, is a large, flat bone that forms part of the pelvis. There are two hip bones in the human body, one on each side, which join with the sacrum and coccyx to form the pelvis.

Each hip bone consists of three parts: the ilium, ischium, and pubis. The ileum is the largest and most superior portion of the hip bone, forming the broad, fan-shaped region that makes up the upper part of the pelvis. The ischium is located inferiorly and posteriorly, forming the lower and back parts of the hip bone. The pubis is the anterior portion of the hip bone, and it meets with its counterpart from the opposite hip bone at the pubic symphysis, a joint in the front of the pelvis.
