Question

I have no idea what this metamorphic rock is.  Could someone help me?

**Image Description:**

The image displays a rock sample, accompanied by a scale for size reference at the bottom of the image. The photo is credited to Polly A. Bouker.

**Educational Text:**

"Which rock name is best for the sample in the photograph? (61 in rock kit)"

**Multiple Choice Options:**

- Amphibolite
- Anthracite
- Gneiss
- Marble
- Metaconglomerate (selected answer)
- Phyllite
- Quartzite
- Serpentinite
- Schist (Mica)
- Schist (Garnet)
- Soapstone
- Slate

**Explanation:**

This activity asks students to identify the correct rock name from several options, applied to the sample shown in the photograph. The selected answer is "Metaconglomerate," which suggests that the rock in the photo has characteristics consistent with this type of metamorphic rock, typically composed of rounded clasts cemented together. The size of the sample can be gauged using the scale beneath it, which provides a visual reference for understanding the texture and size of the clasts within the rock.

Follow-up Question

Any other idea besides metaconglomerate?  Because that is incorrect.  I know it is not foliated so it is not slate, phyllite, schistose, or gneiss. It is non-foliated and that is where I am stuck at.
