Question

Three systems with efficiencies of 98%, 87%, and 21% are connected in cascade.
If the system with the least efficiency (21%) were removed
and replaced by one with an efficiency of
90%, what would be the percentage increase in total
efficiency?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Solution :-

When three system are connected in a cascaded system then their efficiencies also get multiplied with each other .

 So efficiency of system without replacement : -

y = .98×.87×.21 ×sy = .179 s

where s is the input and y is the output.

Now when system component is replaced then efficiency is given by :-

y = .98×.87×.9×sy = .767 ×s
