How reproduction takes place in fungi.

Expert Solution
Step 1Fungi and its reproduction reproduction

fungus is member of the group of eukaryotic organisms which includes eparate microorganisms like  yeasts and molds, as well as the more familiar mushrooms. These organisms are classified as in one  kingdom, which is different  from the other eukaryotic life kingdoms of plants and animals.

Reproduction:

Fungi reproduce both sexually and/or asexually. The perfect fungi can reproduce bothby  sexually aswell as asexually, while some fungi reproduce only asexually (by mitosis).

In both sexual and asexual reproduction, fungi tend to produce spores that get disperse from the parent organism by either floating on the wind or with the help of an animal.

2 modes are:

Step 2Asexual Reproduction

Fungi reproduce asexually by the method fragmentation, budding, or by simple producing spores. The fragments of hyphae actually grow new colonies. Mycelial fragmentation generally takes place  when a fungal mycelium gets separated  into small pieces with each component growing into a separate mycelium.

During the process of budding (a type of cytokinesis), a growth actually forms on the side of the cell, and the nucleus divides mitotically, finally the bud gets  detacheed  from the mother cell.

Spores allow fungi to expand their distribution and colonize into  new environments. They gets released  within a special reproductive sac called a sporangium.
